Biography
Ike Quebec was an American tenor saxophonist known for his big, breathy tone that drew from the swing tradition of *Coleman Hawkins* and *Ben Webster*. Though never a major innovator, he was a distinctive and consistent performer, adept at blues, ballads, and up-tempo pieces. A key figure at #Blue Note# Records, he was not only a successful artist for the label in the 1940s but also an influential talent scout, bringing artists like *Thelonious Monk* and *Bud Powell* to the company. After a period of obscurity, he made a celebrated comeback in the early 1960s with albums like 'Heavy Soul' and 'Blue & Sentimental' before his untimely death.
