Biography
Joe Bataan, born Bataan Nitollano in Spanish Harlem in 1942, is the Afro-Filipino singer and pianist known as the King of Latin Soul. His #Fania Records# albums 'Gypsy Woman' and 'Riot!' married doo-wop vocals to boogaloo rhythms; he later co-founded #Salsoul#, scored an early rap hit with 'Rap-O Clap-O', and still performs, his bilingual ballads and dancefloor anthems remaining staples of Latin soul.
