Biography
A saxophonist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist, Joseph Jarman was a foundational member of both the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) and the legendary Art Ensemble of Chicago. His work blended the textural explorations of free jazz with a deep sense of ritual, poetry, and spiritual inquiry, making him a vital voice in the avant-garde. Jarman was responsible for the group's use of face paint and costumes, viewing performance as a multimedia theatrical event. After early solo albums on #Delmark# like 'Song For', his primary focus became the Art Ensemble's mission of creating "Great Black Music, Ancient to the Future."
