Biography

Low was an American band from Duluth, Minnesota, formed by the core husband-and-wife duo Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker. Emerging in 1993 as a quiet reaction to the era's loud grunge scene, they became pioneers of the slowcore and dream pop subgenres. Their minimalist sound, built on slow tempos, sparse arrangements, and the striking vocal harmonies between Sparhawk and Parker, defined their early work on labels like #Vernon Yard# and #Kranky#. Albums such as 'I Could Live in Hope' and 'Things We Lost in the Fire' are seminal texts of indie rock. Later, on #Sub Pop#, they embraced more abrasive and electronic textures, culminating in the acclaimed experimental trilogy of 'Ones and Sixes', 'Double Negative', and 'Hey What'. The band's nearly three-decade run concluded following Parker's death in 2022.
