Biography
Brooklyn funk band formed in 1968 by brothers Carlos, Lou and Ric Wilson, born in Panama and raised in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Mandrill's expansive, multi-instrumental sound blended funk, soul, jazz, Latin and rock on #Polydor Records# albums such as 'Mandrill', 'Composite Truth' and 'Mandrilland', and later for #Arista Records#. Long recognised as one of funk's most progressive outfits, the group reunited after a 1980s breakup, lost Lou Wilson in 2013, and released 'Back in Town' in 2020, with Carlos, Ric and Wilfredo Wilson still at its core.
