Maruja

Maruja is a Manchester-formed quartet known for a volatile fusion of post-punk, free jazz, noise rock, and spoken word. [2, 5, 6] The group’s sound is defined by its raw, cathartic energy, merging aggressive, intricate arrangements with the textural dominance of the saxophone. [6, 13] They first gained wider attention with their 2023 EP, 'Knocknarea', which codified their genre-defying approach. [2, 3] Built upon a foundation of collective improvisation and noted for intense, immersive live performances, the band has shaped a distinct identity within the UK's experimental music landscape.
