Michael Henderson

A bassist and vocalist who was a pivotal figure in the development of jazz fusion and funk. As a teenager, he was famously recruited by Miles Davis, becoming the anchor of his controversial and highly influential electric bands from 1970 to 1975. His heavy, hypnotic funk bass lines, heard on albums like 'On the Corner,' were a radical departure from traditional jazz bass playing. He later launched a successful career as a solo R&B artist, scoring hits like 'You Are My Starship.'
