Michael Rother

Biography

German guitarist and composer born in Hamburg in 1950. Michael Rother co-founded *Neu!* with Klaus Dinger after a brief period in *Kraftwerk*, then formed *Harmonia* with the members of *Cluster*. His solo albums, beginning with 'Flammende Herzen' in 1977 and including 'Sterntaler' and 'Katzenmusik', turned the motorik *Neu!* rhythm into bright, melodic instrumental music. Rother remains active as a performer of his own catalogue and of the *Neu!* and *Harmonia* repertoires, and is regarded as one of the defining figures of krautrock.
