Biography

Midwife is the solo project of singer-songwriter Madeline Johnston, begun in Denver in 2014 and self-described as 'heaven metal'. Her reverb-drenched albums 'Like Author, Like Daughter' (2017), 'Forever' (2020) and 'No Depression in Heaven' (2024) on #The Flenser# centre on grief, faith and survival. She records largely alone at home, and the project's devotional imagery frames songwriting itself as an act of care.
