Biography
Otis Spann was a Chicago blues pianist and singer, regarded as the finest postwar blues pianist. As *Muddy Waters*' pianist from the early 1950s until 1969, and as house pianist at #Chess Records#, his rolling, powerful playing shaped the classic Chicago sound. His own albums, beginning with 'Otis Spann Is the Blues' in 1960 and including 'The Biggest Thing Since Colossus', showcased his singing as well as his piano. He died in Chicago in 1970 and entered the Blues Hall of Fame in 1980.
