Protomartyr

Biography

Protomartyr is a post-punk band from Detroit, Michigan, that formed in 2008. The group’s sound is defined by the juxtaposition of frontman Joe Casey's deadpan, sardonic vocal delivery and philosophical lyrics with the dynamic, atmospheric, and often abrasive guitar work of Greg Ahee. Their music blends the moody textures of 1970s British post-punk with the raw energy of their city's garage-rock heritage. After gaining initial attention with their debut, 'No Passion All Technique', the band rose to wider critical acclaim with albums on #Hardly Art# and #Domino Recording Company#, including 'The Agent Intellect', 'Relatives in Descent', and 'Formal Growth in the Desert', cementing their reputation for creating dense, anxious, and cathartic rock music.
