Public Image Ltd. (PiL) is a pioneering English post-punk band formed by John Lydon following the dissolution of the *Sex Pistols*. Emerging in 1978, the group immediately distinguished itself with a radically experimental sound that defied rock conventions. Their early work, particularly the albums 'Public Image: First Issue' and the seminal 'Metal Box', fused dub basslines, dissonant guitar, and Lydon's incisive, snarling vocals to create a sound that was abrasive and influential. Signed to #Virgin Records#, the band's lineup has been famously fluid, with Lydon as the sole constant. After a lengthy hiatus, PiL reformed in 2009, continuing to tour and release new music that challenges and explores new sonic territories.
