Biography
Formed in London in 1982, Sade emerged from the Latin soul band Pride with a signature sound that defined the sophisti-pop and quiet storm movements. The group’s music is characterized by the interplay between Sade Adu's smoky, understated vocals and the band's minimalist arrangements, which merge soul, smooth jazz, and R&B with subtle pop sensibilities. This distinctive approach, evident from their 1984 debut *Diamond Life*, established a style marked by atmospheric textures and rhythmic subtlety. With a remarkably stable lineup and infrequent releases, the band has cultivated an enduring influence, shaping contemporary R&B and earning a reputation for artistic consistency.
