Biography
Atlanta band Smoke (1992–1999) paired singer Benjamin with cornet, cello and guitar on two albums of ragged, melancholic country rock, 'Heaven on a Popsicle Stick' (1994) and 'Another Reason to Fast' (1995). Rooted in the Cabbagetown scene, the band ended with Benjamin's death in 1999 and was later documented in the film 'Benjamin Smoke' (2000). Their music mixed country, jazz and cabaret into something entirely their own.
