Biography
Texas-raised singer-songwriter, born in Fort Monroe, Virginia, whose 'Guitar Town' (1986) fused country with Springsteen-style rock and made him a leader of the alt-country generation. After addiction and prison nearly ended his career, he rebuilt it with albums such as 'El Corazón' (1997) and 'Jerusalem' (2002). A novelist, actor and outspoken activist against the death penalty, he remains one of American songwriting's most uncompromising voices, and the father of *Justin Townes Earle*.
