Biography
Ted Curson was an American jazz trumpeter celebrated for his powerful, fiery style and his ability to bridge post-bop and the avant-garde. He gained initial fame for his essential contributions to the groundbreaking 1960 quartet of *Charles Mingus*, alongside *Eric Dolphy*. Curson also had a significant early association with pianist *Cecil Taylor*. As a bandleader, he released numerous albums, including 'Plenty of Horn' and 'Tears for Dolphy', that showcased his adventurous and rhythmically charged playing. A beloved figure in Europe, he was a fixture at Finland's Pori Jazz Festival from its inception in 1966 until his passing.
