Biography
The Shadows were an English instrumental rock group formed in London in 1958, originally as the backing band for *Cliff Richard*. Led by guitarist Hank Marvin, with Bruce Welch and, from 1961, drummer Brian Bennett, they pioneered the lead, rhythm, bass and drums format and scored UK number ones with 'Apache', 'Kon-Tiki' and 'Wonderful Land'. Active across five decades of splits and reunions, they remain among the most successful acts in UK chart history.
