Biography
Wynton Marsalis is a trumpeter, composer, and educator who emerged as a leading figure of the 1980s 'Young Lions' movement. Signing with #Columbia Records#, he simultaneously launched jazz and classical careers, becoming the first artist to win Grammy Awards in both categories in the same year. A staunch advocate for jazz tradition, he co-founded and serves as Artistic Director for Jazz at Lincoln Center. His ambitious oratorio, 'Blood on the Fields', was the first jazz composition to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1997, cementing his status as a pivotal figure in American music.
