A monumental rock ballad built around two of David Gilmour's most revered, emotionally charged guitar solos. Roger Waters penned the lyrics based on a traumatic experience during the 1977 'In the Flesh' tour where he was injected with tranquilizers to perform through agonizing stomach cramps. The track represents the narrative climax of 'The Wall', contrasting the detached perspective of a doctor with the isolated hallucinations of the protagonist.
