Cosmic Music

Album Notes & Community Reviews

This album is a powerful document of late-period John Coltrane, posthumously released with organ overdubs by his wife, Alice. The session is a raw, searching piece of spiritual free jazz, featuring ecstatic, 'fire music' improvisations from both John Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders. Alice Coltrane's cosmic organ work, added later, envelops the original performance in a celestial, meditative atmosphere, creating a bridge between two distinct but spiritually connected musical worlds.
