Biography
Billy Bang was an American jazz violinist from Mobile, Alabama, a Vietnam veteran whose raw, vocal playing made him a singular voice in free jazz. Co-founder of the *String Trio of New York*, he confronted his war years on the acclaimed albums 'Vietnam: The Aftermath' (2001) and 'Vietnam: Reflections' (2005). He took his stage name from a cartoon character, and his raw, vocalised violin tone, closer to a human cry than to classical polish, made his records instantly recognisable.
