Formed in Tokyo in 1992, Boris is a Japanese experimental rock unit recognized for its prolific and stylistically volatile body of work. Initially emerging from a sludge metal and hardcore punk foundation, the trio of Atsuo, Takeshi, and Wata consistently reshapes its sound, moving across drone, noise, shoegaze, ambient, and pop. This refusal to be confined to a single genre is a core tenet of their process, which favors studio improvisation and collaboration. Through a vast catalog that includes over twenty studio albums and numerous collaborations, Boris has defined a career of sonic exploration, influencing a wide spectrum of experimental and heavy music.
