Arthur Blythe

Arthur Blythe

An alto saxophonist with one of the most distinctive sounds in jazz history. Blythe was known for his huge, soulful, and vibrato-rich tone, which could cut through any ensemble. A key figure in the 1970s and 80s avant-garde, he created music that was both fiercely experimental and deeply rooted in the blues and swing traditions. His album 'Lenox Avenue Breakdown' brilliantly fused avant-garde concepts with a funky, danceable groove.
