Colin Stetson

Colin Stetson is an American composer and multi-instrumentalist who has redefined the saxophone's capabilities in contemporary music. [1] Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he is known for a physically demanding and technically advanced solo performance style that produces polyphonic textures from a single horn. [3, 7, 8] Stetson harnesses a unique combination of circular breathing, multiphonics, and vocalizations sung through the reed to create complex, layered compositions without overdubs. [2, 6, 7] His work, particularly on bass and alto saxophones, bridges avant-garde, experimental, and popular music, influencing both solo performance and film scoring with a singular, visceral sonic vocabulary.
