Biography
Mississippi Fred McDowell (1904-1972) was a hill country blues singer and bottleneck guitarist from Mississippi, recorded by Alan Lomax in 1959 after decades as a farm labourer. His hypnotic one-chord songs for #Arhoolie Records# and the 1969 album 'I Do Not Play No Rock 'n' Roll' made him a blues-revival elder; *The Rolling Stones* covered his 'You Gotta Move', and *Bonnie Raitt* modelled her slide playing on his.
