Biography
Freddie Redd was an American hard-bop pianist and composer with a distinctive, blues-inflected style. He is best known for composing, acting in, and performing the music for Jack Gelber's landmark 1959 play and subsequent film, 'The Connection'. His score, released on the classic #Blue Note# album 'The Music from The Connection', featured searing performances alongside alto saxophonist *Jackie McLean*. Redd's career was marked by periods of intense creativity, including other acclaimed #Blue Note# dates like 'Shades of Redd', followed by long stretches of relative obscurity, often spent living and performing in Europe before resettling in the U.S.
