Biography
Louis Hayes is a supremely swinging and prolific American hard bop drummer, celebrated for his crisp, propulsive, and interactive style. He rose to prominence through influential tenures with two of jazz's greatest small groups: the *Horace Silver* Quintet (1956–1959) and the *Cannonball Adderley* Quintet (1959–1965). His drumming anchored a series of classic albums for #Blue Note# and #Riverside#, including Silver's '6 Pieces of Silver' and Adderley's 'In San Francisco'. Hayes also had a significant stint with the *Oscar Peterson* Trio and has led a long, distinguished career as a bandleader, making him one of the most recorded and respected drummers of his generation.
