Biography
Cool jazz singer who replaced *Anita O'Day* in *Stan Kenton*'s orchestra in 1945, scoring hits with 'Tampico', and then, with arranger *Pete Rugolo*, made the #Capitol Records# albums that defined the style, beginning with 'Something Cool' (1954). Christy's soft, behind-the-beat delivery on 'The Misty Miss Christy' (1956) and 'Fair and Warmer!' (1957) made her the archetypal West Coast vocalist of the 1950s.
