NEU!

NEU!

Formed in Düsseldorf in 1971 by Klaus Dinger and Michael Rother following their departure from Kraftwerk, NEU! defined a pivotal axis of German experimental rock. [9, 24] The duo's sound was forged from the tension between Dinger's relentless, machine-like "motorik" drumbeat and Rother's atmospheric, fluid guitar textures. [5, 9] Working with producer Conny Plank, who acted as an integral third member, the band created a minimalist aesthetic that merged hypnotic propulsion with ambient soundscapes and proto-punk aggression. [9, 19, 21] Although achieving little commercial success, NEU!'s innovative approach to rhythm, texture, and song structure became foundational to post-punk, electronica, and alternative rock. [5, 15]
