Biography
16 Horsepower was a highly influential band from Denver, Colorado, that pioneered the 'Gothic Americana' sound. Formed in 1992, the core trio for most of their career consisted of David Eugene Edwards, Jean-Yves Tola, and Pascal Humbert. Their music was a dark and intense fusion of alternative country, traditional folk, bluegrass, and gospel, often driven by Edwards's fervent lyrics exploring themes of conflict, guilt, and redemption through a starkly religious lens. After releasing acclaimed albums like 'Sackcloth 'n' Ashes' on #A&M Records# and 'Secret South' on #Glitterhouse Records#, the band's internal political and spiritual differences led to their dissolution in 2005, with members continuing in projects like *Wovenhand* and *Lilium*.
