Biography
The Carter Family, formed in southwestern Virginia by A. P. Carter, Sara Carter and Maybelle Carter, was the first vocal group to become country music stars. Their Bristol Sessions recordings of 1927 for the #Victor Talking Machine Company# introduced songs such as 'Wildwood Flower' and 'Can the Circle Be Unbroken' to a national audience. Maybelle's Carter scratch guitar playing reshaped country music, and the family's harmonies influenced bluegrass, folk and rock musicians for generations.
