Biography
The Chills were a New Zealand indie pop band from Dunedin, formed in 1980 and led throughout by singer and songwriter Martin Phillipps, their only constant member. A flagship act of the Dunedin Sound on #Flying Nun Records#, they are best known for 'Submarine Bells' (1990) and its single 'Heavenly Pop Hit'. After a long recording gap, a settled final lineup released 'Silver Bullets' (2015), 'Snow Bound' (2018) and 'Scatterbrain' (2021). The band ended when Phillipps died in July 2024.
