Biography
The Pharcyde is an American hip hop group formed in South Central Los Angeles in 1989, where dancers and choreographers Imani, Bootie Brown and Slimkid3 met on the underground club circuit before rapper Fatlip completed the quartet. Signed to #Delicious Vinyl#, the group released its debut album 'Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde' in 1992; the gold selling record, driven by the single 'Passin' Me By', offered a playful, jazz inflected alternative to gangsta rap. The follow up, 'Labcabincalifornia' (1995), featured production from *J Dilla* and the singles 'Runnin'' and 'Drop'. Fatlip left in 1997 and Slimkid3 departed in 2000. All four members reunited for festival performances in 2008, and in the 2020s the group re-formed as a trio of Imani, Fatlip and Slimkid3.
