Biography
Venom were an English heavy metal band from Newcastle upon Tyne, formed in 1978. The trio of Conrad 'Cronos' Lant, Jeffrey 'Mantas' Dunn and Anthony 'Abaddon' Bray made 'Welcome to Hell' (1981) and 'Black Metal' (1982), records that shaped thrash and extreme metal and gave black metal its name. After splits, the Dolan-fronted years and a 1995 classic-line-up reunion, Lant led the band until his death in September 2026, closing with 'Into Oblivion' that year.
