Biography

Waylon Jennings was a seminal figure in American country music, recognized as a primary architect of the Outlaw Country movement. Mentored by early rock pioneer *Buddy Holly*, Jennings later chafed against the polished Nashville sound, forging a grittier, rock-influenced style. This rebellious spirit was crystallized on albums like 'Lonesome, On'ry and Mean' and 'Honky Tonk Heroes'. His 1976 compilation with *Willie Nelson*, *Jessi Colter*, and *Tompall Glaser*, 'Wanted! The Outlaws', became country music's first platinum-selling album. He later formed the supergroup The Highwaymen with *Johnny Cash*, *Willie Nelson*, and *Kris Kristofferson*, cementing his legendary status before his death in 2002.
