Biography
*Yellow Magic Orchestra* (YMO) were a Japanese electronic band formed in Tokyo in 1978 by Haruomi Hosono, Yukihiro Takahashi and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Pioneers of synth pop and electronic dance music, they built playful, futuristic records from synthesizers, sequencers and drum machines, beginning with 'Yellow Magic Orchestra' (1978) and 'Solid State Survivor' (1979) on #Alfa Records#. Their influence runs through electro, techno, hip hop and J-pop. The trio split in 1984, reunited several times, and ended with the deaths of Takahashi and Sakamoto in 2023.
