Biography
Augustus Pablo was the stage name of Horace Swaby, a pioneering Jamaican reggae and dub musician, producer, and keyboardist. He is most famous for popularizing the melodica as a lead instrument in reggae, creating a distinctive, haunting sound that became his signature. His early work with producer *Herman Chin Loy* led to him adopting the 'Augustus Pablo' name. He quickly became a key figure in the 1970s dub movement through his own productions on his #Rockers# and #Message# labels and his landmark collaborations, most notably 'King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown' with the legendary engineer *King Tubby*. His 'Far East' sound, characterized by minor-key melodies, influenced generations of musicians within and beyond reggae.
