Biography
Formed in Rochdale, UK, in 1987, Autechre is the electronic music duo of Rob Brown and Sean Booth. Initially rooted in electro and hip-hop, their work evolved from the structured techno of early releases into increasingly abstract and complex arrangements. The duo's progression is marked by a shift toward generative and algorithmic composition, utilizing software like Max/MSP to create intricate, ever-changing sonic architectures that challenge conventional rhythm and melody. Autechre's rigorous and uncompromising approach to sound design has defined them as pivotal figures in experimental electronic music, profoundly shaping the landscape of the genre.
