Biography

Duke Pearson was a pivotal American jazz pianist, composer, and producer who helped shape the signature hard bop sound of #Blue Note# Records in the 1960s. Nicknamed "Duke" by his *Duke Ellington*-admiring uncle, he was known for his lyrical and logical piano style. After the death of *Ike Quebec*, Pearson took over as an A&R man for #Blue Note#, producing numerous sessions and recording his own influential albums like 'Wahoo!' and 'Sweet Honey Bee'. His compositions, including the standard 'Jeannine' and 'Cristo Redentor', famously arranged for *Donald Byrd*, showcase his elegant and soulful approach to modern jazz.
