Biography
American guitarist from Washington, D.C. who created American primitive guitar, a solo steel-string style blending country blues fingerpicking with raga and classical dissonance. On his own #Takoma Records# he released 'Blind Joe Death' (1959) and 'The Transfiguration of Blind Joe Death' (1965), and championed early blues reissues. Fahey's later years mixed obscurity with acclaimed returns such as 'Womblife' (1997), and his technique shaped players from *Leo Kottke* onward. He founded Takoma in 1959 with money saved from a gas-station job, pressing his first album in an edition of 100 copies.
