Biography
Mahavishnu Orchestra was a pioneering jazz fusion band formed in New York City by English guitarist *John McLaughlin*. The group's initial lineup, featuring *Billy Cobham*, *Jan Hammer*, *Jerry Goodman*, and *Rick Laird*, defined a new musical language by merging jazz improvisation with the volume of psychedelic rock, complex rhythms from Indian classical music, and funk. Their debut album, 'The Inner Mounting Flame', released on #Columbia Records#, established them as a formidable force. Known for technically virtuosic interplay and high-energy live shows, the band went through several incarnations, profoundly influencing both jazz fusion and progressive rock before disbanding.
