Biography

New York punk and metal band formed in 1978 by Rod Swenson around vocalist Wendy O. Williams. Plasmatics were famous for destructive, taboo-breaking stage shows involving chainsaws, explosives and smashed televisions, alongside albums such as 'New Hope for the Wretched', 'Beyond the Valley of 1984' and 'Coup d'Etat'. Guitarists Richie Stotts and Wes Beech anchored a frequently changing line-up behind Williams. The band split after 'Maggots: The Record' in the late 1980s, leaving a lasting influence on shock rock, crossover punk and later women in hard rock and metal.
