Biography
Savatage is an American heavy metal band formed in Tarpon Springs, Florida, in 1979 by brothers Jon and Criss Oliva. Starting out as Avatar, they progressed from raw metal to the progressive rock operas 'Streets' and 'Dead Winter Dead', written with producer *Paul O'Neill*. Criss Oliva's death in 1993 reshaped the band, and its song 'Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)' later grew into the *Trans-Siberian Orchestra* phenomenon.
