Biography
Shape of Despair is a Finnish funeral doom metal band formed in 1995 under the original name Raven. Initially starting as an instrumental black metal project, the group shifted to a slow, melancholic sound to better capture atmospheric depth and emotional weight. Renowned for their use of dense guitar walls, haunting keyboards, and contrasting vocal styles, they signed with Spikefarm Records for their 2000 debut Shades of... and later joined #Season of Mist#. Over a career spanning three decades, they have solidified their status as pioneers of the funeral doom genre, characterized by meticulous production and expansive, mournful compositions.
