Biography

Strawbs were an English folk rock and progressive rock band formed in London in 1963 and led throughout by singer and songwriter Dave Cousins. The first British signing to #A&M Records#, they moved from folk beginnings through the *Rick Wakeman* era to a commercial peak with 'Grave New World' (1972) and 'Bursting at the Seams' (1973), which carried the hit single 'Part of the Union'. Later lineups made the North American successes 'Hero and Heroine' (1974) and 'Ghosts' (1975). The band played its final concert in 2023; Cousins died in 2025.
