Biography
American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1967. Blue Cheer's original power trio of Dickie Peterson, Leigh Stephens and Paul Whaley made 'Vincebus Eruptum' (1968), whose loud, distorted take on 'Summertime Blues' became a United States hit and a landmark of early heavy metal. Frequent line-up changes followed, but Peterson led later versions of the band through the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, releasing 'The Beast Is Back' (1984), 'Highlights and Lowlives' (1990) and 'What Doesn't Kill You...' (2007) before his death in 2009.
