Red Garland
Red Garland was a celebrated American jazz pianist renowned for his work as a bandleader and as the pianist for the first great *Miles Davis* Quintet. His elegant, swinging style was distinguished by his signature use of block chords and a light, sophisticated touch rooted in the blues. As a prolific leader for the #Prestige# label, he recorded numerous influential trio albums, including his debut 'A Garland of Red', often with bassist *Paul Chambers* and drummer *Art Taylor*. His sound, which beautifully blended the influences of players like *Ahmad Jamal* and *Nat King Cole*, made him one of the most recognizable and influential pianists of the hard bop era.
