Ramones

Ramones

Formed in Forest Hills, Queens, in 1974, the Ramones pioneered the American punk rock movement. [1, 2, 3, 4] The group distilled rock and roll to its essential components: rapid tempos, simple three-chord structures, and minimal instrumentation, creating a sound that directly countered the elaborate progressive and arena rock of the era. [4, 5, 12, 13] This deliberately raw and high-energy approach, defined by short, aggressive songs under a detached aesthetic, established a new musical vocabulary. Their elemental formula became the sonic and stylistic blueprint for punk rock, shaping subsequent generations of musicians worldwide before the band's dissolution in 1996. [2, 3, 5]
