John Cale

Biography
John Cale is a Welsh musician and producer who co-founded *The Velvet Underground* with *Lou Reed* in 1965, bringing a classical violist's drone to rock music. After leaving in 1968 he produced debut albums for *The Stooges* and *Patti Smith* and built a restless solo catalogue, from the orchestral 'Paris 1919' (1973) to 'Mercy' (2023). A restless experimenter across rock, drone and orchestral music, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the band in 1996 and continues to record and tour in his eighties.
